The Marion County Commissioners recently appointed Larry Brown to serve as a board member to Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD).
Brown, who is MarionMade! being born and raised in Marion, OH graduated from Marion Catholic High School in 1964. He went on to earn an associate degree in Business Administration from St. Gregory’s Junior College, Shawnee, Oklahoma and a bachelor degree in Industrial Relations from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Brown has a vast variety of experience and expertise that will contribute to the 169 Board. He brings with him community and employee relation experience from his time at Quaker Oats Company, he was a life insurance manager for Verne Heart Insurance, and he and his wife were house parents for Residential Home Association of Marion (RHAM) where they supervised and taught independent living skills to seven developmentally disabled adults. He served as an industrial consultant for the Marion Area Counseling Center (MACC) where he coordinated employee assistance programs with local industries. Brown was the appropriating authority at the Marion County Commissioners office, manager of support services for the Ohio Bureau of Employee Services, and served as a supervisor at J-Lenco, Inc.
Currently, Brown is a road foreman for Marion Township Road Department where he is responsible for the maintenance of 134 Township Road including snow removal, paving, and road drainage as well as other township responsibilities such as two closed township cemeteries and the six-acre Township Complex.
Brown’s wife Sue is a title-reading teacher with Marion City Schools and is assigned to St. Mary’s School. They have three grown children, Tim who is the OhioHealth Athletic Trainer for Harding High School, daughters Amy and Jody are both special education teachers, one in Orlando, Florida and one in Milford, Ohio respectfully.
Brown had this to say about his recent appointment, “I’m happy to be contributing to an organization that has been close to my family for many years. My father Dr. Jerome Brown was a founding member of the 169 Board for Marion County Board of DD and served for 25 years and my brother David received services for 47 years.”
